Up on the blog this week I've compiled my favorite interior ideas to help you create an après ski chic style at home. Après ski is a longstanding ritual of socializing, snacking and sipping much-deserved cocktails after an eventful day of braving the slopes. The term translates to “after skiing” in French, and the pastime rose to popularity in the Alps during the 1950s.
Not everyone likes to ski. But even those of you who don’t enjoy speeding down a snowy mountain on a pair of glorified planks can appreciate après-ski: wrapped up in a throw by a crackling fire, Glühwein or hot chocolate in hand, savoring fondue while playing games with friends, occasionally looking up from the cards to admire the glistening white terrain outside or the ceiling beams of the chalet in which you’re staying.
Fortunately you don’t need to head to a ski resort or even live in a chalet to savor that après-ski ease. Surround yourself with the ideal mix of the rustic and the luxurious, and the rest will follow.
Add a Faux Hide Rug
Cowhide rugs tend to be a bit of a polarizing interior design item. People either love them or hate them, but regardless of how you feel about them stylistically, you can’t deny that they are incredibly versatile and could instantly add that cabin feel. If you're not into true hides, go for a faux.

Sheepskin
The sheepskin throw can appear in any room of any home of any aesthetic — hence its ubiquity in interior design. Sheepskins, tossed atop rugs or chairs add coziness.

Antlers
Another controversial interior design accessory is the antlers. Listen, as a vegetarian I get it. Faux or real, you can't deny that a pair of antlers atop a fireplace is a classic look and adds that instant chalet style you may be after.

Leather and Plaid
Another classic ski chalet combination is leather and plaid. It's such a nice masculine look for an interior and gives off that cabin vibe.

Textiles
Fabrics inspired by classic tailored fashions: bouclés, linens, soft and butter leathers, wool felt and thick wool throws add a coziness to spaces. You could also bring a touch of northern minimalism into your space with the aesthetics of the Nordic countries. If you want your interior to acquire a touch of Swedish pragmatism and Finnish restraint, add it with textiles with a black and white Scandinavian pattern like the pillows below.

What sets apart après-ski chic from cabin charm are the luxe touches. Whether you ski or just enjoy being in the mountains or snow, adding a little of this charm will make anyone feel warm, comfortable and relaxed.
