Last week with a group of other Philadelphia Interior Designers, Delia Designs was invited by Shaw Contract/Hospitality to attend a glass blowing event at East Falls Glassworks. They are a Philadelphia glass studio and gallery, offering glassblowing classes, studio rental and work for sale by local artists. We had a hands on experience that was the perfect introduction to blowing glass. We learned all about the process while being supported by the experienced glass artists.
Our guide Nicolai was there mentoring us through the process of wielding rods tipped with molten glass, adding color to our pieces, and shaping our creations into a beautiful, one of a kind paper weights.
Sometimes it can be hard to see the glass as half-full, but you won't have to put on rose-tinted glasses should you decide to sign up for your own glass blowing experience. Or, if you just need a special piece for your interior. I fell in love with the idea of being able to design one of a kind glassware for my next hotel project or blowing glass into unique pendants for a light installation. It's entirely possible for an interior designer to get carried away with creativity in this environment. The icing on the cake is that it was so much fun to network with other industry professionals in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
Located a few miles northwest of Center City, East Falls Glassworks is Philadelphia’s only public access glassblowing studio!
Here are some photos of our fun evening.
