Up on the blog this week it's all about life at home as we approach Daylight Savings Time. This year has given new meaning to the word home. As we settle into a new season, we're finding quiet moments of joy in simple things like a sprig of foraged greenery or freshly washed sheets. From curling up with a good book to lighting a favorite candle, trying a new recipe or soaking in the late afternoon sun streaming through the windows, we're slowing down and taking it all in. Let's keep finding the light together, at home. Here are my top three tips for brightening up your interior as we lose light and start to hunker down.
Add a Light Source
If you’re looking to add just a touch more light without overdoing the luminosity of your room, you should try adding fairy string light, a group of large candles, orb lights, or other ambient lights. Not only will they offer just the right touch of luminosity, but also add tremendous charm and therapeutic feel. So long as they have a warm, yellow light, they will be perfect for your home. They create an intimate, hygge-like atmosphere that can effortlessly make even the most rugged interior design decor feel chic.

Add a mirror to reflect light
If you read my blog, you know I just love a good mirror. It’s an interior designer's age old trick to use mirrors to expand visual space and brighten a dark room. However, to use your mirror to its fullest potential, make sure to strategically place it near a light source. For example, a giant wall or floor mirror near a window can really amplify natural lighting. Placing table lamps or a floor lamp next to a mirror can also have a similar effect. For the best result, make sure that the lamp emits ambient lighting so it’s not too bright when reflected off the mirror.

Add a bright Wallcovering
Add an unexpected touch to a ceiling with a bright wallpaper. Ceiling wallpaper works for most rooms because depending on the pattern, you can go very minimalist or luxe, and you can transform a boring interior design into the chicest thing you've ever seen. If that's too much commitment, start with a peel and stick version for easy removal.
When trying the trend, I recommend playing with your existing interior design style and make sure that the wall covering incorporates some of the colors that are introduced in the space below it. You don't have to purchase new accessories to try the trend—simply choose a color or pattern that you enjoy and keep existing pieces of the same color palette.

We're reflecting on the meaning of home, and how our homes reflect us. Now, more than ever, home is the place we love the most, because it embraces those we love most. That is why I have always believed that home is, above all, a place of comfort, a retreat from the outside world.
