Up on the blog this week, in preparation for another week of Social Distancing, I am back to writing about Interior Design. Who else is with me in thinking that 2020 has been a dumpster fire so far? However, since life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it, I'd like to encourage you to rethink your surroundings this week. Take some time to and carve out space to envision how you want your home to look or even just one room. Now is the perfect time to work on your dream home design goals. So, I am going to walk you through coming up with a Concept or a "Vision Board" to organize your goals visually so that when the lock-down is over, you can start to implement them.

STEP ONE
Assess Your Space - and Yourself: A good start is to close your eyes, picture yourself living in the home of your dreams, and experience how you feel. That works best when you have details in mind, lots of them…Sit down and write out words and phrases that are coming to you about your home or even a space in your home.

STEP TWO: Think about the future.
Here are a few questions you may want to answer as you start envisioning your interior. Do you have or plan on having children in the coming years? Do you have aging parents? If so, you’ll need to think about accommodating close family members in many different scenarios, such as returning college students, accommodating grandchildren and grandparents, taking care of elderly parents – even accommodating extended family for holiday occasions. Likewise, if you’re hoping to transition from an office job to operating your own business out of your home, your interior design should include an office or flexible space. Basically, when you think about the amenities in your home plan, you are deciding what kind of family you’d like to become. Include features your future self will find handy.

STEP THREE: The fun part.
One powerful influencing factor in the success of vision boards is the emotion you attach to the images and affirmations. We need to go beyond simply imagining and really feel what it’s like to be enjoying our manifested dreams. So, now is the time for you to find ways to reflect the words you came up with to describe your dream home into your board in different ways. Use them as grounding words to return to as you select images.
Selecting images is easier than ever now with Pinterest, Houzz and other Interior Design magazines online. Find my Pinterest Account HERE You can also use magazines that you have on hand in your home. Pull out the images that speak to you and the interior design vision you have for your home or space. Once you've selected a good amount of images, it's time to start putting them on your board. Either your digital board or your physical board. Being a visual person, I also encourage you to allow the board to flow aesthetically as a collage!

ORGANIZE
Chances are that before you start creating the interior design of your space, you may need to do some organizing and purging. No time like the present, guys!! Spring cleaning is upon us, and we're not going anywhere, so you might as well tackle those closets, trouble corners, pantries, heck the whole house!

While the circumstances around this crazy time in history are horrific, I think we can seize them as an opportunity to better ourselves in so many ways. So if you'd like to hit the interior design reset button with me, get on Pinterest or find some old magazines this weekend, and start creating your dream home. There are no rules to these boards. Use your own intuition to create something beautiful that will help guide you through the coming months and years. Finding ways to focus our energies into positive areas like this is what will get us through. Wishing you all health and hope.
I hope that you enjoyed this post and it encourages you to start dreaming about your home. And hey, let's get social. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and connect on LinkedIn!
